Description

We have a NexBot Robotics 322-010 3D Vision Camera (SKU: NXB-SNS-322-010) installed on an R-20 series robot for a bin-picking application. The system has been running without issue for 18 months. Yesterday, the cell faulted out, and we are unable to re-establish communication with the camera. The robot controller is reporting a PROFINET I/O device failure, and we're seeing error code E-4112 on the HMI. The status LED on the camera itself is flashing red, which the manual indicates is a general communication fault. We have verified the 60VDC power supply is stable and have swapped the PROFINET cable with a known-good cable, but the issue persists. We cannot ping the device on the network, and it is no longer visible in our device tree. The production line is currently down, and we need to diagnose if this is a configuration issue or a hardware failure of the camera unit.

Symptoms

  • PROFINET device not detected by controller
  • Flashing red status LED on camera body
  • Robot controller HMI displays peripheral device fault
  • No image data received from the sensor

Resolution

Troubleshooting determined the NXB-SNS-322-010 camera had an internal hardware failure preventing PROFINET communication. After verifying power and cabling were correct, the support technician advised connecting the camera directly to a maintenance laptop running diagnostic software. The device failed to initialize or be discovered even on a direct connection, confirming an internal fault. The customer was advised to replace the unit. A new NexBot Robotics 322-010 3D Vision Camera (SKU: NXB-SNS-322-010) was installed, the device name was set via the controller's engineering software, and the system was brought back online. Full communication and functionality were restored.

Resolution Steps

  1. Verified the 60VDC power supply was stable and within the specified tolerance.
  2. Inspected and replaced the PROFINET cable to rule out a cabling issue.
  3. Attempted to discover the camera using the controller's PROFINET configuration tool, which failed.
  4. Connected the suspect NXB-SNS-322-010 camera directly to an engineering laptop to isolate it from the plant network.
  5. Confirmed the camera was still undiscoverable, indicating an internal hardware fault.
  6. Powered down the robot cell according to LOTO safety procedures.
  7. Replaced the faulty camera with a new NXB-SNS-322-010 unit.
  8. Powered the system on, assigned the correct PROFINET device name to the new camera, and verified successful communication and operation.
