Misalignment issue with Tool Adapter Plate NXB-MNT-813-010 on R-50 robot wrist flange

Description

We recently purchased a NexBot Robotics 813-010 Tool Adapter Plate (SKU: NXB-MNT-813-010) to mount a new end-of-arm tool on our R-50 series robot. We are experiencing significant difficulty during installation. When we attempt to attach the plate to the J6 axis flange, it does not sit flush. The M8 bolt holes appear to be slightly out of alignment with the tapped holes on the robot flange, by maybe half a millimeter. We have confirmed we are using the correct plate for the R-50 as per the documentation. We have cleaned both mating surfaces and checked for any burrs or foreign material, but the issue persists. The plate rocks back and forth when placed on the flange, indicating it's not making even contact. We are hesitant to force the bolts in for fear of cross-threading the robot's J6 flange, which would be a catastrophic failure for us. Is there a known tolerance issue with this batch of plates, or a specific orientation procedure we are missing? Our production line setup is currently on hold because of this mounting problem.

Symptoms

• Adapter plate does not sit flush on the robot's J6 flange.

Resolution

The customer's installation issue was resolved by correctly orienting the NXB-MNT-813-010 adapter plate using the primary dowel pin on the R-50's J6 flange. The ISO 9409-1-100-6-M8 standard includes a precision dowel pin for repeatable positioning, which the installation team had overlooked. By first aligning the plate's corresponding dowel hole with this pin, the plate seated correctly and all six M8 mounting holes came into perfect alignment. The customer was instructed to always use the dowel pin as the primary locating feature before attempting to install any mounting bolts to prevent misalignment and potential damage to the threads.

Resolution Steps

1. Instructed customer to verify the robot flange and the adapter plate (SKU: NXB-MNT-813-010) were clean and free of any debris or damage.
2. Guided the customer to identify the single, solid dowel pin on the R-50's J6 mounting flange, which serves as the primary alignment key.
3. Directed the customer to locate the corresponding precision-bored dowel hole on the rear face of the tool adapter plate.
4. Advised the customer to carefully place the adapter plate onto the flange by first engaging the dowel pin with its hole.
5. Once the plate was rotationally locked by the dowel pin, it sat flush against the flange surface.
6. Confirmed with the customer that all six M8 bolt holes were now perfectly aligned.
7. Advised the customer to proceed with installing the M8 bolts by hand first, then tightening them to the specified torque in a star pattern.
