Installation Guide: NexBot Robotics SD131-007 Single-Axis Servo Drive

SKU: NXB-SRV-SD131-007 | Revision: 1.0 | Category: Drive Systems > Servo Drives > Single-Axis Servo Drives

DANGER: Disconnect all power sources before beginning installation. Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures per OSHA 1910.147.

1. Required Tools & Materials

2. Pre-Installation Checks

  1. Verify the product label matches the order: NexBot Robotics SD131-007 (SKU: NXB-SRV-SD131-007).
  2. Inspect the drive for any signs of shipping damage, such as cracks in the ABS cover or bent terminals.
  3. Confirm adequate clearance in the control cabinet, allowing at least 50mm of open space above and below the drive's 210mm height for ventilation.
  4. Ensure the main power supply is within the 400-480VAC 3-Phase range and is de-energized and locked out.
  5. Verify that the connected servo motor is compatible with the drive's power and control specifications.
  6. Check that the control cabinet environment meets the IP20 rating requirements, protecting the drive from conductive dust and moisture.

3. Installation Procedure

Step 1: Mechanical Mounting

Securely mount the SD131-007 drive vertically to the cabinet's backplate using four M4 screws. Ensure the 2.1 kg weight is fully supported and the unit is level for optimal heat dissipation.

Warning: Ensure the mounting plate is a conductive, grounded surface to provide a proper path to earth ground.

Step 2: Protective Earth (PE) Connection

Connect the main protective earth ground wire to the designated PE terminal on the drive. Use the shortest, thickest wire possible (minimum 2.5mm²) to ensure a low-impedance path to ground.

Warning: This connection is critical for safety. Never operate the drive without a verified protective earth connection.

Step 3: Connecting 3-Phase AC Input Power

Connect the 3-phase AC power lines (L1, L2, L3) to the corresponding input terminals. Torque the terminal screws to the specified value found in the hardware manual to prevent loose connections.

Warning: Confirm the incoming voltage is between 400-480VAC before connecting. Incorrect voltage will permanently damage the drive.

Step 4: Connecting the Servo Motor

Connect the motor power phases (U, V, W) and motor ground to the designated output terminals on the drive. Use shielded motor cables to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI).

Step 5: Connecting the Motor Encoder

Plug the shielded motor encoder cable into the corresponding D-sub connector on the front of the SD131-007. Ensure the cable shield is properly terminated at the drive-side connector housing.

Warning: An improper encoder connection can lead to uncontrolled motor movement upon power-up.

Step 6: Connecting EtherCAT Communication

Connect the incoming EtherCAT cable to the X1 IN port and the outgoing cable to the X2 OUT port for daisy-chaining devices. Use shielded CAT5e or better cables for reliable communication.

Step 7: Connecting Digital I/O

Wire any necessary control signals, such as enable, home switch, or overtravel limits, to the digital I/O terminal block. Refer to the user manual for pin assignments and voltage specifications.

4. Post-Installation Verification

  1. Double-check that all terminal screws (power, motor, I/O) are tightened to their specified torque.
  2. Verify continuity between the drive's PE terminal and the main cabinet ground using a multimeter.
  3. Ensure all cable shields are properly grounded and connections are secure.
  4. Remove all tools, wire clippings, and foreign objects from the drive and surrounding area.
  5. Apply power to the drive and verify that the status LED indicates a healthy state (e.g., solid green) without any fault codes.
  6. Establish communication with the drive via the EtherCAT master and check for correct device identification.
