Installation Guide: NexBot Safety PWR511-008 Motor Power Cable
SKU: NXB-SRV-PWR511-008 | Revision: 1.0 | Category: Cables & Connectors > Power Cables > Motor Power Cables
DANGER: Disconnect all power sources before beginning installation.
Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures per OSHA 1910.147.
1. Required Tools & Materials
2. Pre-Installation Checks
- Verify the product SKU on the packaging and cable jacket matches NXB-SRV-PWR511-008.
- Visually inspect the entire 8-meter length of the cable for any shipping damage, such as cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections.
- Examine the connectors at both ends for bent pins, debris, or damage to the locking mechanism.
- Confirm the robotic cell and associated drive cabinet are de-energized and secured using proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Ensure the planned cable route is free of sharp edges, sources of extreme heat, and chemical contaminants.
- Check that the mating connectors on the motor and drive are clean, dry, and free of damage.
3. Installation Procedure
Step 1: Confirm Power Isolation
Before beginning installation, use a digital multimeter to verify zero energy state at the drive's power output terminals where the cable will be connected. This is a critical safety step that must be performed after applying LOTO.
Warning: Failure to verify zero energy state can result in severe electrical shock, injury, or death.
Step 2: Route the Cable
Carefully route the NexBot Safety PWR511-008 cable from the drive cabinet to the motor connection point. Avoid sharp bends that violate the minimum bend radius and ensure the cable is not twisted or kinked along its 8-meter length.
Step 3: Connect to Motor
Align the keyway on the cable connector with the motor's power receptacle. Push firmly to seat the connector, then hand-tighten the threaded coupling until snug.
Warning: Do not force the connection. If it does not seat easily, remove and inspect both connectors for misalignment or debris.
Step 4: Connect to Drive/Controller
Repeat the connection process at the drive or controller end. Align the connector, seat it fully, and hand-tighten the coupling.
Step 5: Torque Connectors
Using a calibrated torque wrench, tighten the threaded couplings at both the motor and drive ends to the specified torque of 8 Nm. This ensures a secure connection and maintains the IP67 environmental seal.
Warning: Over-tightening can damage the connector threads and compromise the seal. Under-tightening can lead to intermittent connections and moisture ingress.
Step 6: Secure Cable Path
Using cable ties, secure the cable along its designated path within the cable tray or energy chain. Ensure adequate strain relief at both ends to prevent stress on the connectors during robot movement.
Step 7: Final Inspection
Perform a final visual inspection of the entire installation. Check that the cable is not pinched, stretched, or rubbing against any moving parts or abrasive surfaces.
Step 8: Remove LOTO and Power On
Once the installation is confirmed to be correct and secure, authorized personnel may remove the Lockout/Tagout devices according to site procedures. Power on the system and prepare for post-installation checks.
Warning: Stand clear of the robotic arm during initial power-up.
4. Post-Installation Verification
- After powering on, check the servo drive's control panel or software interface for any motor power or connection-related error codes.
- Perform a low-speed manual jog of all robot axes to ensure the cable moves freely without binding or snagging.
- Verify that the connector couplings remain secure at 8 Nm after initial machine movements.
- Listen for any unusual electrical buzzing or humming from the connection points, which could indicate a poor connection.
- Confirm that the IP67 seals on both connectors are fully seated and not deformed.
- Update the equipment's maintenance log to record the installation date and part number of the new NXB-SRV-PWR511-008 cable.
