Installation Guide: NexBot Robotics LA013-005 6-Axis Robot Arm 120kg Payload
SKU: NXB-ROB-LA013-005 | Revision: 1.0 | Category: Robots > Articulated Robots > Large Articulated (50-200kg)
DANGER: Disconnect all power sources before beginning installation.
Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures per OSHA 1910.147.
1. Required Tools & Materials
2. Pre-Installation Checks
- Verify the foundation is a reinforced concrete slab, engineered to support the 1250 kg static weight and dynamic operational loads of the LA013-005.
- Ensure the installation area is clear of obstructions and provides the full 2650 mm reach envelope plus a safety buffer zone.
- Confirm a dedicated 400-480VAC 3-phase power circuit with appropriate circuit protection is available at the installation point.
- Check that the ambient temperature and humidity at the site are within the robot's specified operating range.
- Inspect the robot shipping crate and the robot itself for any signs of damage that may have occurred during transit.
- Verify all components listed on the packing slip are present, including the robot base, controller, teach pendant, and cabling.
3. Installation Procedure
Step 1: Foundation Preparation and Marking
Using the provided template, mark the drilling locations for the M20 anchor bolts on the prepared concrete foundation. Ensure the marked area corresponds to the robot's 850 x 700 mm base dimensions and is perfectly level.
Warning: An uneven or improperly cured foundation can lead to operational instability and positioning errors. Verify foundation integrity before proceeding.
Step 2: Lifting and Positioning
Carefully uncrate the LA013-005 robot arm. Attach certified lifting straps to the designated lifting points on the robot body as indicated in the rigging diagram. Slowly lift the 1250 kg unit and position it over the marked anchor bolt locations.
Warning: Crush Hazard. The robot arm weighs 1250 kg. Only certified rigging personnel should perform the lift. Keep all personnel clear of the lift zone.
Step 3: Anchoring the Robot Base
Lower the robot base onto the anchor bolts. Install washers and nuts, then tighten them in a star pattern to the specified torque value using a calibrated torque wrench to ensure even pressure and secure mounting.
Step 4: Electrical Power Connection
Connect the main power cable from the dedicated 400-480VAC circuit to the robot controller's primary input terminal. Ensure the main disconnect is locked out and tagged out before making any connections. A qualified electrician must perform this step.
Warning: High Voltage Hazard. Failure to de-energize and lock out the power source before connection can result in severe injury or death.
Step 5: Grounding Connection
Attach the main equipotential bonding conductor from the facility's ground grid to the designated grounding lug on the robot controller and the robot base. A low-impedance ground connection is critical for safety and noise immunity.
Step 6: Communication Cable Connection
Connect the primary EtherCAT communication cable from your master controller or PLC to the EtherCAT IN port on the robot controller. If part of a daisy-chain, connect the subsequent device to the EtherCAT OUT port.
Warning: Ensure cables are routed away from high-voltage lines to prevent signal interference. Use shielded EtherCAT cables for best performance.
Step 7: Connecting the Teach Pendant
Connect the teach pendant cable to the designated port on the robot controller. Ensure the connector is fully seated and locked to prevent intermittent connection issues during operation and programming.
Step 8: Install End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT)
Mount the desired end-effector to the J6 axis flange. Ensure the tooling weight, including the workpiece, does not exceed the 120 kg maximum payload. Connect any required pneumatic or electrical lines for the EOAT.
Warning: Exceeding the 120 kg payload limit can cause excessive wear, motor faults, and potential mechanical failure.
4. Post-Installation Verification
- Verify all mounting bolts are torqued to the specified values.
- Perform a continuity check on the main grounding connection.
- Power on the controller and check for any initial boot-up errors or alarms on the teach pendant.
- Establish communication with the robot over the EtherCAT network and verify the device appears correctly in the master's device tree.
- Check the functionality of the emergency stop circuits on the controller, teach pendant, and any external safety devices.
- Perform a slow, manual jog of each of the 6 axes to ensure full range of motion without any binding or unexpected obstructions.
