Installation Guide: NexBot Robotics LA013-004 6-Axis Robot Arm 120kg Payload
SKU: NXB-ROB-LA013-004 | Revision: 1.0 | Category: Robots > Articulated Robots > Large Articulated (50-200kg)
DANGER: Disconnect all power sources before beginning installation.
Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures per OSHA 1910.147.
1. Required Tools & Materials
2. Pre-Installation Checks
- Verify the concrete foundation meets thickness and curing specifications to support the 1250 kg robot weight and dynamic loads.
- Confirm a dedicated, lockable 480VAC 3-Phase power source is available within 5 meters of the controller location.
- Ensure the planned work envelope provides complete clearance for the robot's 2,650 mm reach plus end-of-arm tooling (EOAT).
- Inspect the shipping crate and robot for any visible signs of damage that may have occurred during transit.
- Cross-reference the packing list to confirm all components, including the robot arm, controller, teach pendant, and primary cables, are present.
- Check that the installation environment is free of excessive dust, corrosive vapors, and moisture to comply with the IP65 body rating.
3. Installation Procedure
Step 1: Positioning and Lifting
Using certified lifting equipment and the designated lift points on the robot base, carefully hoist the LA013-004 arm. Slowly lower the robot onto the prepared foundation, aligning the base holes with the pre-drilled anchor locations.
Warning: Never stand under a suspended load. Ensure all personnel are clear of the lifting area. The robot's weight is 1250 kg; use appropriately rated rigging.
Step 2: Anchoring the Robot Base
Insert M24 anchor bolts through the robot base into the foundation. Apply chemical anchoring agent as per the manufacturer's instructions and tighten the nuts in a star pattern to the specified torque value using a calibrated torque wrench.
Step 3: Leveling the Base
Place a precision machine level across the machined mounting flange of the robot base. Use steel shims where necessary to achieve a levelness of 0.1 mm/m or better. A perfectly level base is critical for achieving the specified ±0.05 mm repeatability.
Warning: Failure to properly level the robot can introduce positioning errors and cause premature wear on axis drives.
Step 4: Connecting Controller Power
Connect the 480VAC 3-Phase supply to the main terminals of the robot controller. Ensure the high-potential ground connection is properly and securely terminated first.
Warning: All electrical work must be performed by a qualified electrician. Ensure the main power source is locked out and tagged out before beginning.
Step 5: Connecting Robot and Pendant Cables
Route the main power and data umbilicals from the controller to the connection panel at the base of the LA013-004 robot. Connect the teach pendant cable to the designated port on the front of the controller cabinet.
Step 6: Establishing EtherCAT Communication
Connect the primary EtherCAT IN port on the controller to your plant's master PLC or automation network. If using EtherCAT-based peripherals, connect them to the EtherCAT OUT port to form the communication chain.
Step 7: Mounting End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT)
Securely mount the desired end-effector to the wrist flange on Axis 6. Connect any pneumatic or electrical lines for the tooling. The total weight of the EOAT and the workpiece must not exceed the 120 kg maximum payload.
Warning: An improperly secured or overweight payload can lead to catastrophic failure. Verify tooling weight and center of gravity before operation.
4. Post-Installation Verification
- Perform a full safety circuit test, verifying all E-Stops and safety interlocks (e.g., light curtains, door switches) immediately halt robot motion.
- Power on the system and check the teach pendant for any initial startup faults.
- Run the mastering and calibration routine to establish the precise home position for all six axes.
- Jog each axis slowly through its entire range of motion to confirm free movement and correct software limit settings.
- Define the mass properties and Tool Center Point (TCP) of the installed EOAT in the control software.
- Execute a simple test program at low speed to verify correct path following and positioning before commencing production.
