Installation Guide: NexBot Drives 831-014 6-Axis Robot Arm 25kg Payload

SKU: NXB-ROB-831-014 | Revision: 1.0 | Category: Accessories & Mounting > Fasteners & Hardware > Robot-Grade Bolts & Nuts

DANGER: Disconnect all power sources before beginning installation. Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures per OSHA 1910.147.

1. Required Tools & Materials

2. Pre-Installation Checks

  1. Verify the bolt SKU is NXB-ROB-831-014 and matches the project specification sheet.
  2. Visually inspect the M12 x 1.5 threads and Zinc-Flake coating on each bolt for shipping damage or manufacturing defects.
  3. Ensure the mounting surface and the threaded holes in the robot pedestal are clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, or debris.
  4. Confirm the receiving threads are undamaged and of the correct M12 x 1.5 specification.
  5. Check that the robot base and mounting pedestal holes are perfectly aligned before attempting to insert any bolts.
  6. Consult the main robot installation manual for the required final torque value for this specific application.

3. Installation Procedure

Step 1: Step 1: Prepare Threads and Surfaces

Thoroughly clean the male threads of the NXB-ROB-831-014 bolt and the female threads of the mounting pedestal using an approved industrial solvent and a lint-free cloth. Allow the solvent to fully evaporate before proceeding.

Warning: Failure to properly clean threads can result in inaccurate torque readings and reduced clamping force.

Step 2: Step 2: Apply Thread-Locking Compound

Apply a small, consistent bead of medium-strength thread-locking compound to the leading threads of the bolt. Do not over-apply, as excess compound can interfere with proper seating.

Step 3: Step 3: Initial Hand-Threading

Carefully insert the bolt into the aligned hole and hand-tighten it for at least three full rotations. This ensures the bolt is not cross-threaded, which could damage both the bolt and the mounting equipment.

Warning: If resistance is felt during hand-threading, stop immediately. Back the bolt out and inspect threads for damage.

Step 4: Step 4: Snug All Bolts in Sequence

Using a socket wrench, snug down all mounting bolts in a star or crisscross pattern until their heads are seated against the robot base. Do not apply final torque at this stage. This step ensures the base is evenly seated.

Step 5: Step 5: Set Calibrated Torque Wrench

Set your calibrated torque wrench to the specific torque value required by the main robot arm's technical manual. Ensure the wrench has been calibrated within the recommended service interval.

Warning: Using an uncalibrated wrench or an incorrect torque value can lead to joint failure or equipment damage.

Step 6: Step 6: Apply Torque in Stages and Pattern

Following the same star pattern, apply torque in stages. First, bring all bolts to 50% of the final value, then to 100%. This method ensures an even distribution of clamping force across the mounting flange.

Warning: Apply torque with a smooth, continuous motion. Do not use jerky movements or an impact wrench for final torquing.

Step 7: Step 7: Final Torque Verification Pass

Once all bolts have been torqued to the final value, perform one final pass in the same sequence to verify that no bolt has loosened as others were tightened. The wrench should not move further before clicking.

Step 8: Step 8: Mark Fasteners

Using a torque-seal lacquer or paint pen, apply a witness mark from the bolt head across to the flange surface. This provides a quick visual indicator for future inspections to see if the bolt has loosened.

4. Post-Installation Verification

  1. Verify that all installed bolts are the correct NXB-ROB-831-014 SKU.
  2. Double-check that a witness mark has been applied to every installed bolt head.
  3. Ensure there is no visible gap between the robot base and the mounting surface.
  4. Allow the thread-locking compound to fully cure for the time specified by its manufacturer before putting the robot into service.
  5. Record the date of installation and the final torque value applied in the equipment maintenance log.
  6. Remove all tools from the work area and perform a final visual inspection of the completed installation.
