Installation Guide: NexBot Vision 543-015 Strain Relief Grommet

DANGER: Disconnect all power sources before beginning installation. Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures per OSHA 1910.147.

2. Pre-Installation Checks

  1. Verify the component is NexBot Vision 543-015 Strain Relief Grommet (SKU: NXB-GEN-543-015) by checking the packaging.
  2. Inspect the EPDM rubber grommet for any tears, cracks, or manufacturing defects before installation.
  3. Ensure the target panel material is compatible with drilling or punching and its thickness is within the grommet's grip range.
  4. Confirm the cable to be installed has an outer diameter compatible with the grommet's sealing range.
  5. Ensure all power to the enclosure or robotic cell is disconnected and locked-out/tagged-out (LOTO).
  6. Prepare a clean, well-lit work area free of debris.

3. Installation Procedure

Step 1: Step 1: Power Down Equipment

Ensure the robotic system and associated control panels are completely powered down. Follow all standard lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures to prevent accidental energization.

Warning: Failure to de-energize equipment can result in severe electrical shock, injury, or death.

Step 2: Step 2: Prepare Mounting Hole

Precisely create a 22mm diameter mounting hole in the desired panel location using a step drill bit or a 22mm panel knockout punch. Ensure the location allows for proper cable routing without sharp bends at the entry point.

Step 3: Step 3: Deburr and Clean Hole

Use a deburring tool to carefully remove all sharp edges from both sides of the newly created hole. Sharp edges can damage the grommet and compromise the IP67 seal.

Warning: Wear safety glasses and gloves to protect against metal shavings.

Step 4: Step 4: Clean Mounting Surface

Clean the area immediately surrounding the hole on both sides of the panel with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. A clean, dry surface is essential for achieving a proper seal.

Step 5: Step 5: Install the Grommet

Align the NexBot Vision 543-015 grommet with the hole and press it firmly into place. The groove around the grommet's circumference should snap securely into the panel edge, resulting in a flush fit.

Step 6: Step 6: Prepare the Cable

Wipe the section of the cable jacket that will pass through the grommet to remove any dirt or oils. If necessary, apply a small amount of non-petroleum based cable pulling lubricant.

Warning: Do not use petroleum-based lubricants as they can degrade the EPDM rubber material over time.

Step 7: Step 7: Insert Cable

Carefully push the end of the cable through the center membrane of the installed grommet. The membrane will pierce and form a tight seal around the cable jacket.

Step 8: Step 8: Final Positioning

Pull the cable through to the desired length, leaving adequate service loop inside the enclosure. Ensure the cable is positioned without applying immediate stress to the grommet.

4. Post-Installation Verification

  1. Visually inspect the grommet to ensure it is fully seated and flush against the panel on both sides.
  2. Gently tug on the cable to confirm the strain relief is engaged and the grommet remains securely in place.
  3. Verify the seal around the cable by checking for any visible gaps between the EPDM material and the cable jacket.
  4. Confirm the grommet has not been twisted or deformed during the cable installation.
  5. Wipe away any excess lubricant from the cable and panel surface.
  6. Once all connections are complete, remove LOTO devices and restore power to the equipment according to standard procedures.
