Article

Proper maintenance is critical for the longevity and reliability of your NexBot Robotics ELC412-004 Electric Gripper. Following this scheduled maintenance plan will help prevent unexpected downtime and ensure consistent gripping performance, preserving its ±0.02 mm repeatability.

Maintenance Schedule

Perform the following tasks at the specified intervals to keep your gripper in optimal condition.

| Interval | Task | Details | |---|---|---| | Daily | Visual Inspection | Check for any visible damage, loose components, or debris accumulation on the gripper body and fingers. | | Weekly | Functional Check | Operate the gripper through its full range of motion. Listen for unusual noises and verify smooth movement. | | Monthly | Mounting & Cable Check | Verify the torque on the J6 mounting bolts. Inspect the power and IO-Link cable for signs of wear, abrasion, or damage. | | Semi-Annually (or every 500,000 cycles) | Internal Lubrication | Clean and re-lubricate the internal drive mechanism and jaw guides. |

Required Tools and Parts

  • Safety Glasses
  • Torque Wrench (0-10 Nm range)
  • Metric Hex Key Set (2mm, 4mm, 5mm)
  • Lint-free cloths
  • Isopropyl alcohol (IPA)
  • NXB-LUBE-GRS-02 High-Performance Robotics Grease

Step-by-Step Procedure

WARNING: Before beginning any maintenance, ensure the robot controller and any related equipment are powered down and locked out according to your facility's safety procedures.

1. External Inspection and Cleaning

  1. Power down the robot system.
  2. Carefully wipe down the exterior of the gripper (SKU: NXB-GEN-ELC412-004) with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Avoid spraying liquid directly onto the gripper to protect its IP54 rating.
  3. Remove any chips, dust, or other contaminants from the gripper fingers and jaw mechanism.
  4. Inspect the gripper fingers for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.

2. Mounting Bolt Torque Check

  1. Access the bolts that mount the gripper to the robot's J6 flange.
  2. Using a calibrated torque wrench, verify that each mounting bolt is tightened to 4 Nm.
  3. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the mounting flange.

3. Cable and Connector Inspection

  1. Inspect the entire length of the cable connecting the gripper to the robot arm.
  2. Look for any signs of cracking, fraying, or pinching.
  3. Ensure the connector is securely fastened and that the locking mechanism is engaged.
  4. If any damage is found, the cable assembly should be replaced immediately to prevent communication or power issues.

4. Semi-Annual Lubrication

This procedure involves partial disassembly of the gripper.

  1. Remove Gripper Fingers: Using a 4mm hex key, remove the screws securing the gripper fingers to the jaw slides. Set the fingers and screws aside.
  2. Access Internal Mechanism: Carefully remove the faceplate screws to expose the internal jaw slide mechanism. Note the orientation of the plate for reassembly.
  3. Clean Old Grease: With a clean, lint-free cloth, carefully wipe away all old grease and any accumulated debris from the jaw slides and drive components. A small amount of IPA can be used if necessary, but ensure it evaporates completely before applying new grease.
  4. Apply New Lubricant: Apply a small, thin layer of NXB-LUBE-GRS-02 grease to the contact surfaces of the jaw slides. Do not over-grease, as excess lubricant can attract contaminants and hinder performance.
  5. Reassemble: Re-install the faceplate and tighten the screws in a star pattern to a torque of 1.5 Nm. Re-attach the gripper fingers and tighten their mounting screws to 3 Nm.

Verification

  1. Restore power to the robot system.
  2. From the robot teach pendant or control software, command the gripper to open and close several times.
  3. Confirm that the motion is smooth and quiet throughout the entire stroke.
  4. Using the IO-Link interface, command the gripper to a specific position and force value. Verify that it achieves the setpoints accurately and without generating any diagnostic faults.
  5. Run a test production cycle to ensure the gripper performs as expected under normal operating conditions.
