Overview

The NexBot Vision 821-011 Joint Cover is a critical component for protecting the wrist axes (J4, J5, J6) of specified NexBot R-Series and C-Series industrial robots. Proper installation of this cover is essential for maintaining the robot's IP65 ingress protection rating, preventing contamination from dust and liquids, and ensuring the long-term reliability of the joint mechanisms. This document outlines the technical data for the part and provides a standardized procedure for its replacement and installation.

Technical Specifications

  • Part Number: NXB-GEN-821-011
  • Product Name: NexBot Vision 821-011 Joint Cover for R-Series/C-Series Robots
  • IP Rating: IP65
  • Dimensions: 155 x 120 x 120 mm
  • Material: Constructed from a high-durability, impact-resistant polymer designed to withstand common industrial chemicals and temperature fluctuations.
  • Seal: Integrated gasket provides a positive seal against the joint housing.

Compatibility

This joint cover is designed exclusively for the following NexBot robot models and joint positions.

Compatible Robot Series:

  • NexBot R-10 (Articulated)
  • NexBot R-20 (Articulated)
  • NexBot C-5 (Collaborative)
  • NexBot C-10 (Collaborative)

Compatible Joint Positions:

  • J4 (Wrist Twist)
  • J5 (Wrist Bend)
  • J6 (Flange Rotate)

Use of this cover on other robot models or joint positions is not supported and may result in inadequate protection and potential equipment damage.

Installation Procedure

This procedure must be performed by a qualified technician familiar with industrial robot safety protocols.

Prerequisites

  1. Safety: Ensure all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed. The robot controller must be fully powered down and de-energized before beginning work.
  2. Robot Position: Jog the robot to a safe and accessible service position that provides clear access to the target joint (J4, J5, or J6).
  3. Parts Verification: Confirm you have the correct replacement part, NXB-GEN-821-011. Inspect the new cover for any damage from shipping and ensure the integrated gasket is clean and properly seated.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Power Down and Lockout: Power down the robot controller and apply all required LOTO safety devices.
  1. Remove Existing Cover (If Applicable):

a. Using a 4mm hex driver, loosen the four (4) M5 retaining bolts that secure the existing joint cover. b. Carefully remove the bolts and washers. Store them in a safe place if they are to be reused. c. Gently detach the old cover from the robot arm. Do not use excessive force, as this may damage the underlying joint seals.

  1. Inspect and Clean Mounting Surface:

a. With the cover removed, inspect the joint housing's mounting surface and the primary joint seal for any signs of wear, damage, or contamination. b. Clean the mounting surface with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Ensure the surface is completely dry and free of debris before proceeding.

  1. Position the New Cover:

a. Carefully align the new NXB-GEN-821-011 joint cover over the joint housing. b. Ensure the cover is oriented correctly and that the integrated gasket makes even contact with the mounting surface all the way around. The cover should sit flush without any rocking or gaps.

  1. Fasten the New Cover:

a. Insert the four M5 retaining bolts and hand-tighten them. b. Using a calibrated torque wrench with a 4mm hex bit, tighten the bolts in a star or crisscross pattern to ensure even pressure on the gasket. c. Torque all bolts to 4.5 Nm (3.3 ft-lbs). DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, as this can damage the cover or compromise the seal.

Verification

  1. Physical Inspection: Visually inspect the installed cover. Confirm there are no visible gaps between the cover and the robot arm. Gently press on the cover to ensure it is secure.
  1. Functional Test:

a. Remove all LOTO devices and power on the robot controller. b. In a slow manual mode (T1), carefully move the robot wrist through its full range of motion for the J4, J5, and J6 axes. c. Listen and watch for any signs of interference, binding, or rubbing caused by the new cover. The motion should be smooth and unobstructed.

If the cover is secure and motion is normal, the installation is complete and the robot can be returned to service.
