Overview
This document provides technical guidance for the proper use of NexBot Robotics 733-005 Cleaning Solvent (SKU: NXB-GEN-733-005). This solvent is specifically formulated for cleaning and degreasing surfaces on NexBot Robotics systems, including the R-10, C-10, and S-5 series robots. Adherence to these procedures is essential for ensuring equipment longevity, operational safety, and maintaining the integrity of robot surfaces and components. Incorrect application can lead to cosmetic damage, material degradation, or failure of sensitive components.
Safety Precautions
Before handling or applying NXB-GEN-733-005 Cleaning Solvent, all personnel must read the product's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and adhere to the following precautions:
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear chemical-resistant nitrile gloves and ANSI-rated safety glasses or goggles to prevent skin and eye contact.
- Ventilation: Use the solvent only in a well-ventilated area. If working in a confined space, ensure local exhaust ventilation or use appropriate respiratory protection to avoid inhaling vapors.
- Ignition Sources: The solvent is flammable. Keep away from open flames, sparks, excessive heat, and other potential ignition sources. Ensure the robotic system is completely powered down and de-energized before cleaning.
- First Aid: In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water. In case of eye contact, flush immediately with water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention. If inhaled, move to fresh air.
Approved Applications
The NXB-GEN-733-005 Cleaning Solvent is designed for the following maintenance tasks:
- Grease and Oil Removal: Effectively removes grease, lubricants, cutting fluids, and other industrial soils from robot arm castings, mounting plates, and other non-sensitive metallic surfaces.
- Surface Preparation: Prepares surfaces for the application of labels, adhesives, or touch-up paint by ensuring they are free of contaminants.
- General Maintenance Cleaning: Used during scheduled preventive maintenance to clean accumulated grime from the exterior housings of the robot. It is compatible with the standard finishes on NexBot Robotics R-10, C-10, and S-5 series robots.
Prohibited Applications
To prevent equipment damage, DO NOT use NXB-GEN-733-005 Cleaning Solvent on the following materials or components:
- Electrical Components: Do not apply directly to motors, encoders, connectors, wiring harnesses, controller interiors, or any energized electrical part. The solvent is not dielectric and can cause short circuits or damage to sensitive electronics.
- Plastics and Composites: Avoid application on polycarbonate shields, acrylic surfaces, teach pendant screens, and certain plastic covers, as the solvent may cause crazing, fogging, or material degradation.
- Seals and Gaskets: Do not apply to non-VitonĀ® or other non-resistant elastomer seals, as it can cause swelling, hardening, or failure, compromising the robot's IP rating.
- Painted or Coated Surfaces: While compatible with factory finishes, always test on a small, inconspicuous area before widespread application, especially on field-repaired or repainted surfaces.
Application Procedure
Follow these steps for safe and effective cleaning:
- System Shutdown: Power down the robot and controller. Perform a full Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure to ensure the system is de-energized.
- Surface Preparation: Remove any loose dirt or debris from the target area using a dry, clean cloth or a soft brush.
- Solvent Application: Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with NXB-GEN-733-005 solvent. Do not saturate the cloth, and never spray the solvent directly onto the robot.
- Cleaning: Gently wipe the contaminated surface in one direction to lift and remove the soil. For stubborn grime, you may need to use a fresh cloth and repeat the application. Do not use abrasive pads, as they can damage the robot's surface finish.
- Drying: Allow the solvent to fully evaporate from the surface. This typically takes 1-3 minutes in a well-ventilated area. Do not attempt to accelerate drying with a heat source.
- Inspection: Once dry, inspect the surface to ensure all contaminants have been removed. Verify that there is no solvent residue.
- System Restart: After cleaning is complete and all cloths and materials have been properly disposed of, remove the LOTO device and power the system back on.
Storage and Disposal
- Storage: Store containers of NXB-GEN-733-005 in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and ignition sources. Keep the container tightly sealed when not in use.
- Disposal: Dispose of used solvent and saturated cloths as hazardous waste in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Do not pour down drains or into the environment.
