Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to ensure a secure and reliable connection.

Step 1: Prepare the Cable

  1. Slide the connector's outer pressure screw and housing onto the cable. Do not forget this step, as you cannot add them after wiring the contact insert.
  2. Carefully strip approximately 30 mm (1.2 inches) of the outer cable jacket, being careful not to nick the shielding or inner conductors.
  3. Trim the foil shield, leaving the drain wire intact.
  4. Strip approximately 5 mm (0.2 inches) of insulation from the end of each of the four colored conductors (Red, Black, White, Blue) and the drain wire.

Step 2: Wire the Contact Insert

  1. Loosen the small terminal screws on the contact insert.
  2. Insert each wire into its corresponding terminal according to the standard DeviceNet 5-pin M12 pinout. Ensure no stray wire strands are present.
  3. Use the table below for the correct pin assignment:

  • Electrical Check (Recommended): Use a multimeter in continuity mode to verify a connection between the end of each wire and its corresponding pin. Check for short circuits by testing for continuity between adjacent pins. There should be no continuity between different pins.
  • Network Check: Connect the cable to the intended device on the robotic system (e.g., an I/O block on a NexBot R-20 arm). Power on the system and observe the network status LEDs on the controller and peripheral devices. A solid green light typically indicates a stable network connection.
